RsGlaze®

RsGlaze® is a revolutionary new product that provides the faux artisan with complete control over the finish. The decorative artist now has the ability to improve or touch up work that previously would have been unworkable. This versatile, heavy bodied glaze dries clear and is normally used in conjunction with RsActivator™. It is the first truly removable and re-workable glaze.

Product Tips
- RsGlaze™ may be used alone without the addition of RsActivator™. This material is faster drying and when used alone will dry in approximately 15-20 minutes depending on the conditions.
- Tint with Faux Créme Color™ or AquaColor™. Small amounts of universal colorants can also be used.
- Once RsGlaze™ is mixed with colorants and RsActivator™; the mixture will have a brief shelf life of 1-2 days.
- It is best to mix only the amount needed at any one time.
- Once the glaze is completely dry and set, it is not necessary to apply a barrier coat before proceeding with the next layer.
- RsGlaze™ can be badgered and softened in the wetter stages.
- If the work surface is covered with an inferior grade of paint, RsGlaze™ will still be an effective choice. Simply wet down the wall with water and apply the glaze working it over the damp wall. This application will not work over builder grade paint which is water soluble and of very poor quality.
- RsGlaze™ can be thinned with water for spray applications. Excellent for production spraying.
Basic Application
- Ensure that the work surface is clean and well sealed. For best results apply two coats of SetCoat® and allow to dry thoroughly.
- Mix together the RsGlaze® and the desired amount of FauxCrème Color™.
- To this mixture add approximately 5% RsActivator™. (The maximum amount of RsActivator™ that can be added to a glaze mixture is 10%) Once the RsActivator™ has been stirred into the glaze mixture the physical and working characteristics of the glaze will change. The product appears to puff up or expand slightly. Visually, the viscosity should appear soupy in consistency.
- Using a brush, roller or spray unit (with or without a spatter attachment) apply the mixture to the work surface in a random fashion.
- With a stainless steel trowel, move over the work surface pushing the trowel into the mixture, dragging/pressing to create a variety of shapes. Change directions, moving vertically, horizontally and at different angles until you are satisfied with the pattern. Allow the glaze to set up for 1-2 minutes.
- Using a wadded paper towel, press a portion of the toweling onto the glazed surface and remove immediately. The paper towel will cleanly remove the glaze in that area. Continue to blot the work surface; creating a decorative pattern, until you are pleased with the finish. This material may be constantly changed and altered all the way to the dry stage.
- At this point there are an endless number of options for further enhancement of the finish:
-use the trowel to create more shapes and stone-like bits that will form while the finish is still partially wet -apply more glaze mixture or a second color mixture in the desired areas, then trowel and blot
-allow the finish to dry thoroughly for approximately 1/2 hour (depending on the conditions) and then apply a second layer of glaze repeating the procedure from above
-allow the glaze to dry thoroughly and then apply a layer of RsStone®, RsPlaster™ or a FauxColor™ activated finish. - Once the finish is completed and thoroughly dry it is very durable. In areas of high traffic or water wet conditions such as in kitchens and bathrooms it is best to topcoat the finish with AquaGard™ followed by two coats of C-500 Urethane™.
